The top of the barrel says it was made in Springfield Mass and dates: Pat'd April 9, 1989 - July 7, 1903. The serial number is 28XXX. It is definitely a revolver, 6 inch barrel, says Smith and Wesson on the left side, and 22 Long Rifle CTG on the right side.
