Why do people need this? If you don't want a local network controller, Unifi will host one for you. You simply create a new site, connect your APs, switches, etc to your existing network and use the cloud based controller to manage. Aerohive access points are managed through the cloud, but are full linux boxes at each AP. If you stop paying to the mothership, you can still manage them individually.
