8n ford tractor firing order - Posted: Fri Sep 25, 2009 6:02 pm Post subject: Ford 801 Powermaster Firing Issue. I just got this 801 with the distributor cap and plug wires gone. I got all the stuff i need to get it running, but im not sure on the firing order. I know is 1-2-4-3 but is 1 the first cylinder by the radiator or is it the first cylinder by the rear end.

If the spark plug wires are suspect, replace them. Recently purchased a 1960 861. Original diesel block was cracked and replaced with a similar year 172ci gasser. Gasser block is stamped (D6 JL 6015A) and supposedly out of a articulating loader. The tractor starts, and runs fine other than needing the carb cleaned.The reason # 4 is the cyl in question is because that is the "middle" cyl in the firing order 1-2-4-3. The "middle cyl should always be in overlap. for instance, on a chevy the firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, so if we wanted to see if the valve timing was off we would look at cyl# 6 to see if it was on overlap rolling the engine over to #1 TDC.
